I love this couple. She is as sweet as she can be and he is so in love with her. This last year I had the opportunity to shoot roughly 40 authors at an author’s conference on a Caribbean cruise. Hey, it’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it. Kelly is queen of IT and was one of the fellow speakers as a tech guru at this Publishing at Sea conference through Author You. On one of the biggest ships that roams the seas, we found a tiny private corner and I asked them to dance. Dance they did! We had so much fun, and I cannot tell you how excited I was to be invited back to next year’s conference…this one’s to the other side of the Caribbean. Join me!
During an elopement beneath the cliffs of the Arbor House Inn B&B I stopped the shoot and stared straight at the bride. I smiled at her and said, “You’ve been holding out on me.” I pointed to her ring finger and grinned. I had already taken all my detail shots before the ceremony that include the rings, shoes, flowers, invitations and other details, but as I looked at the bride’s hand before me now I realized she had only given me the wedding band and not the actual engagement ring with the blingy stone. She sheepishly grinned and admitted she didn’t like taking it off. I laughed as I teased her,”I understand that gorgeous rock is difficult to part with, but why on earth would you not want THAT in your wedding photos?! Hand it over, sister.” And so I embarked on a re-shoot, this time with the full set of bling.
I love it when all the elements come together and paint a beautiful scene, like the way the light hits her shoulders and the wind catches her hair. You would never know that the massive amounts of cameras were clicking and screaming for this bride’s attention, and I loved that she took her time and had a moment.

This elopement couple makes me smile. The morning of their elopement in South Fork, Colorado we were chatting about their itinerary plans over coffee and as a shoe girl, I excitedly asked about her shoes. I am all about high heels and love seeing the variety of beautiful shoes that float through my wedding world. Give me all your sparkles, fancy feet and strapy shoes!
This bride described her navy heels with sparkles as her “something blue” and I was already starting to style them in my mind for pictures later. I then proceeded to ask about her “other shoes.” This was a January elopement in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and South Fork had just had its own private snowstorm the day before, something other than picturesque high heels were going to be needed. I saw her eyes get big as I inquired about her snow boots plans and what she was planning to tromp around the property during wedding photos. Her eyes stayed big.
Wrapping up our coffee date, I asked what was next in their morning plans. They giggled as they responded, “Shopping for snow boots!” I laughed as they returned an hour later from a local sports store and she proudly held up her find. This shot on the gate is one of my favorites of the day. Because of her stellar shopping skills we tromped all over and were able to get beautiful wedding photos…with warm feet!
